Very rarely does a secret/double/hidden identity work for me, and this was no exception. While the built up of the relationship was sweet, it was hampered by the fact both characters were basically emotionally and physically cheating on each other…with each other-but they didn’t know that. ![]() The novel goes downhill for me after that. I loved the relationship the three of them shared, all of them protective, considerate, and caring of the others, their own little family. Grayson was curt and stoic except for when it came to his connection to Aria and Noah. The beginning was absolutely my favorite part. As the two catch up, Grayson asks about Noah’s sister Aria, at which point he finds out that she no longer lives with Noah and has moved in with her boyfriend. However, as the book progressed, the style became one of my favorite aspects. ![]() ![]() At first, I really disliked Wake because the choppy writing style irritated me. Told in minimalistic, short sequences, Wake is a short novel that took me less than a seating to finish. Though the beginning is kind of slow, the suspense soon gains momentum. For the first time, Janie is more than a witness to someone else's twisted psyche. Then she falls into a gruesome nightmare, one that chills her to the bone. So Janie lives on the fringe, cursed with an ability she doesn't want and can't control. She can't tell anybody about what she does - they'd never believe her, or worse, they'd think she's a freak.
